Friday Roundup

On July 22nd, 2016 in Quibbles

Y’all. Today I received an unsolicited dick pic from a duck, and I just… thank God this week is over, is all.

Let’s start with the flammable river of a convention that is the RNC, which is really leaning into Trump.

I’d follow that up with something of substance but there appears to be none. They have done nothing over the past several days except procrastinate and then fail their homework.

They aced their presentation on The Crucible, though.

A lot of folks seem to think Hillary smells rotten, but I think we all need to acknowledge the disgusting amount of sexism coming to the front of this election.

Not that this is a new problem, it’s something Hillary has been facing her whole career.

It’s something women everywhere face, like when Facebook says they can’t find any talented woman of color, while looking into a sea of talented woman of color.

Or when someone like Leslie Jones get’s chased off Twitter in a coordinated abuse campaign. Because Twitter is the world’s largest receptacle for human trash.

I mean, yes, Twitter banned Milo Yiannopoulos from their platform, but only taking action when high profile users come under fire does not actually solve the underlying issue.

If that’s the the only time we take action the implication is that abuse is the price of using the internet and avoiding it is a luxury for the privileged few. And we cannot let this become normalized behaviour.

Meanwhile, while Twitter and our political parties grapple with, or ignore, the looming questions of the future, I have some questions about the present:

Q: Why is the government building drones that look like birds?

A: Camouflage, so that the highly trained civilians don’t see them coming.

Q: What’s Snapchat’s favorite book?

A: 1984 by George Orwell

Q: Why is Business Insider applauding frugal millionaires for tax evasion and seven million dollar homes?

A: I don’t know, because if we’re going to talk about money we should probably talk about the ongoing and horrific collapse of Venezuela.

And just to cover all the bases, a question about the past:

Q: What was a foundational experience for many millennial gays growing up?

A: Playing with gay Sims.

Happy weekend. It can’t really get any worse.
